Ottawa, Ontario | Powdery mildew. It infects the leaves in August, runs down the vines infecting the stems in September. Once harvested the infection will rot the top off the pumpkin around the handle. After a while you will be able to push the handle into the pumpkin.
There are a few ways to manage this. One way is to go in and cut all the handles in early Sept.
The other way is to apply fungicides at 10-14 day intervals during August/September and keep the powdery mildew controlled.
