Subject: freightliner FLD 120 trailer brake problem

nc ks
On my fld120, the hoses for the trailer hook into a little valve behind the cab. Where they come out of the valve there is a fitting on each hose that has a plastic sleeve wrapped around it. The fitting on the emergency(red) hose started blowing pressure when I was braking today and it won't quit leaking from underneath that plastic sleeve. What is that fitting for? Do I need it? What caused it to do this. It is almost like it is a pressure relief valve that won't re-close.
