NW Tennessee | One farm averaged 120 bpa dry corn. I really thought it would be a little better than that, but it was awfully hot and dry on it for a time. Even so, that is better than some yields I've been hearing in this area. The other farm averaged 152 bpa dry corn. This was more in line with what I was hoping for. We always hear about the high yields, and I've had some dryland corn close to 200 bpa, but IMO, if you can AVERAGE 150 bpa dryland in my area, you've had a pretty good corn crop. Both farms had some problems with aflatoxin, but only one load rejected on the initial test. It passed later. Had some CB problems on non bt made worse by strong winds from Ike. Still lack another farm that's irrigated, but planted late so it will be a few days on it. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think it's going to be as good as last year. At current input prices, looks like if I have any corn at all next year, it won't be dryland. Plan to start beans Monday. |
