Without being in the field it would be premature to suggest something specific. Nitrogen is certainly an issue, but if they didn't get excess moisture and lose the nitrogen: some possibilities could be short sulfur (Dark green leaves), short magnesium (dark green leaves), or even Zinc deficiency. In cool springs Magnesium (such as is found in Dolemitic Lime) basically doesn't move. Of course, either do many of the micronutrients, or even at times the major elements. So no definite answers, just thoughts.
