Subject: RE: Power beyond

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
We have run two (or more) orbit motors independently with a single power beyond or SCV.

The plumbing gets a bit confusing to explain but here goes: Oil from the tractor enters control valve #1 which splits the oil into two paths. One path leads to Orbit motor #1, the oil coming out of Orbit motor #1 is teed with the oil from the other path from the control valve. In other words the oil coming out of the tractor is split and then is rejoined after the orbit motor.

At this point all the oil from the tractor is "back together" some of it has done the work of running orbit motor #1. This oil could be returned to the tractor or run into control valve #2. Again this oil is split with some of it going to orbit motor #2 and the rest bypassed around the orbit motor. The oil out from orbit motor #2 is teed into the oil from the bypass port on the control valve and then returned to the tractor.

We have gone so far as to have all the oil go to the Fan on a strip-till machine and then be split twice as described above. The tractor was adjusted to get the proper oil flow to run the fan. Since this flow was greater than the orbit motors required, Control valves 1 & 2 were able to split the oil appropriately to run the two metering systems.

We used the Raven control valves which have a Raven motor head on top of a Brand hydraulic block. These valves were controlled by a multi-product Raven control system. This arrangement could also be controlled by an Ag Leader Direct Command system or others.

Another point - if the orbit motors have a case drain (small extra line) this must be returned to the tractor at a point of no back pressure. If the case drain is simply teed into the normal return line, problems are likely as this line will have some back pressure on it. This can cause failure of the orbit motor.
