I planted Triticale in droughty sandy "rye" ground. It did good. Not as good as rye, but much better then winter wheat. It combined and grew about the same as the rye (same harvest challenges). At the time there was only one market 75 miles away. Only did it 2 yrs and the market went away. Market price at that time was same as rye, plus a little as seed stock. Not sure of the improvement in the seed/plant today - but if the market is there it maybe a consideration.
