Subject: CORS and VRS in IL

Adams, MN
The VRS is not in IL at this time. We have heard talk that there may be something in the next 2-4 years. Like Iowa, it could just happen overnight. As for CORS stations, there may be some but not widely published.

You do have an option to greatly help your range and data tranmission issue. Use a Trimble or Mojo base station connected to the InTime Base Connection. This would allow you to receive correction data from that base station by maintaining a direct connection using a smart phone. With this you are creating a CORS station that you can have up to 25 (maybe more) users.

The coverage issue may not be as bad as you think. We often have people using the smart phone to stream correction data in areas that their normal cell phone does not work. We also have been using a booster that gives us a 20db gain, to raise the signal strenght at the tractor.

I had an individual from Alltel stop by the other day. He was extremely thrilled to say how they had turned on EVDO on most towers in our area. This will help even more in the data capabilities of the system. Although we don't need more speed for the CORS/VRS, the point is they are making advances in the systems. He qualified this with info about the Verizon purchase of Alltel, and stated "it just keeps getting better."
