Subject: ATU universal harness and Nmea output

Gridley IL
here is the situation. I have the Universal Harness in my 9500 combine for autotrac. I also want to use the Starfire ITC to feed my ag leader with GPS info for mapping. I know i can get a $140 harness from Deere to make this work, but I just identify the Nmea Tx and Rx wires and want to connect them to the Ag Leader. The question is does the Serial port that i would use to hook up the Ag leader need the ground? I think the ground is most of the time pin 5 for the serial cable and 2 and 3 are the rx and tx or vice-versa.

Bottom line do i need the ground?
