| JD use to offer a magnet, a screen with 4 or 5 magnets in the center on a threaded rod, that went into the bottom of the rearend housing where the oil went thru the filters. I had a 4020 that the hyd pump went out on dumping the hyd sytem full of metal flakes. The dealer flushed the tractor out but the service manager recomended putting in the magnets. For a couple years everytime we changed the filters we would clean the magnet. At first there would be lots of metal shavings on it but they dwindled to where finally it got to the point that the screen would be clean.
You might check with JD & see if the magnet is still available. It wouldn't hurt to have one in every tractor IMO.
