Subject: Re: raven 440 ?

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
There should be no danger of "backfeeding" the Raven boom sections. In fact with the Raven consoles such as the 460/660 and others that do not have built in boom switches this is exactly how it is done.

Inside the 440 the power flows as follows: If the console power switch is ON, 12V flows to the built in Master switch, the output from the Master switch is the input to the individual boom switches. The output from the individual boom switches splits and goes two directions. It goes out the console cable to turn the boom section ON and also goes into the internal circuit board so that calculations are done properly.

The system does not know nor care where this 12v came from. Leaving the boom section switches OFF and having an external device turn ON the valves will cause the backfeeding that you describe. This backfeeding should be exactly what you want so that the Raven will know that the Rinex has turned a boom section ON.

You would want to leave the Master Switch in the ON position at all times. This is necessary so that the MANUAL position of the Rate control switch will work properly. If you never use the MANUAL position there would be no problem in leaving the Master ON or OFF.
