Subject: Re: Any Montana 2007 Imagery Yet????

Not at all- All the satellite or aerial imagery we take for the precision ag industry has a near infrared channel as part of it to be used for vegetation biomass detection for things like VRA maps and crop loss detection.

NRCS aerial photography is not for biomass detection, It is used for base maps for field boundaries etc. Although you can see changes within the field you cannot quantify it by biomass levels. We have available all FSA/ NRCS NIAP photos up online in Satshot. We let our users to draw boundaries on it and use it for reference. If the user needs to analyze the field, They use the Satshot satellite or aerial NIR imagery archive to define the growing patterns for zone management.

Also, we take imagery at multiple dates throughout the growing season and can see changes. NRCS photos, have a time stamp that is not controllable. The FSA gives contracts to the aerial firms and they have a timeline of about 3 months to shoot it with no regards to vegetation levels. You also cannot get NRCS photos within season. The delay is caused by post processing of the data from the firms. Also about 2/3's of the NRCS data is taken analog and then scanned to digital instead of directly digital from the cameras like we receive from our providers.

The digital aerial data we get has the same channels used on satellites. When we use aerial at 1 - 2 meter we can within 24 hours of the shoot have it up in the Satshot system, fully registered and accesible for analysis. We concentrate more on satellite simply because we can access much larger areas and pass on the low cost to the user. Also high res imagery has alot of noise and causes major issues with defining good zones in a field.

Hope this helps, Any more questions? Be glad to answer.
