Subject: Re: Hydraulic swing-up doors for new shop!!

Leesburg, Ohio
We put one in our new shop three years ago...really like it. It's a 16'x34' with remotes. Seals up tight, and I like the shade when it's up. I don't like to leave it all the way open in much of a rain, tho...I think it holds too much water on top when it's opened straight out. Weight hasn't been a problem...it's completely self-supporting as far as vertical load. Horizontal pull when open is reinforced against by diagonal steel bracing in the walls and thru the trusses. Ours was made by Hydroswing in Cottonwood, Mn. (good people to work with) but if you're good with a welder, it shouldn't be too hard to build one. We skinned the inside and outside with the same siding we used on the walls and roof, and insulated under the inside skin with 3" fiberglass (squeezed down between skin and frame) and between the outer skin and frame with thin foam sheeting.
NuTiller: keep us posted on the door building project...I'm thinking about building one for an older shed.
