Select has no residual effect at all. Strictly a contact killer of grass. Has no soil activity. Firstrate has residual control but has a higher rate to acheive it though. I beleive post emerge rate is one half the soil applied rate. A post application may give some marginal soil activity but i wouldn't rely on it to be good for very long.
