Subject: RE: Insight slow speed read out

Rather than have someone follow in a pickup and introduce another variable to your situation that may or may not be correct, why not just use a tape to measure off a 100 foot distance exactly and then check speed vs time over the 100 ft course. Use 5 mph equals 7.33 ft per second, 10 mph equals 14.66 ft per second and so on. The time for traveling the 100 foot course should be just over 13 seconds. Also another way to confirm speed accuracy would be if your controller or display can measure distance, compare it to the same measured course for accuracy. I have always suggested to everyone no matter whether they are using radar, gps, odometer, or wheel magnets to measure the distance of 2 post, poles, driveway entrance and exit or anything that they pass by frequently throughout the year that they can reference easily to confirm the accuracy of distance measuring devices. This is a simple self check and rules out several issues at once. If distance is correct then speed should be also and vice versa. Keep in mind that if distance/speed is off by 5%+/- and that calculation is used for area, application rates, or yield data then you are introducing this error to your total operation. Of all the metioned speed inputs, gps is usually the most dependable sensor and least affected by required user calibrations.

Just food for thought
