Subject: Re: Fertilizer at planting for corn

Martinsville, Ohio

Whatever the soil test calls for. I trust my lab, it has worked really well for me.

Just did one on an old pasture field for a man and it came out 5.6 pH but only called for 2 tons of lime per acre as the buffer is high, the water pH is just plain low. It calls for 175 lbs N, 90 lbs P and 135 lbs K. Bet it needs Zn and B, too so we will trim back the N a bit and spend a little on Zn and B for a more well balanced diet for that crop.

On our farm we balance the soil the best we can and use 20 gallons of 28 and 5 gallons of ATS and 4 gallons of 6-24-24 with a micro package. Works really well for me.

If I can get this PPT slide to post, see the color on this corn? 12 nutrients are Sufficient or High on the tissue test.

The striping is working too, 115 day yellow tint shorty hybrid on left with 112 day  tall dark green hybrid on right, dissimalar parents.

Best corn I ever grew in my life. Some of you guys make this look too easy.

Ed
