Jay's recommendation is the best I ever used. Better than seed treatment but yes, more costly. You get what you pay for.

In furrow surronds the seed with rhizobia versus seed treated surrounds the seed with all those bad guys, fungi and bacteria.

I prefer America's Best because it has three strains of rhizobium japonicum, not one like most inoculants.
