| We had it once, in the late 90's. It was a hard lesson learned. As others said. Trim, soak in footbath solutions, get rid of anything that is a serious problem, give the vaccine and repeat many times. It is treatable. In ND, anyone with hoof rot will be quarentined and it will stay until the state vet inspects and clears you.
Since that time, we have run a closed flock. No ewe will ever set foot on this yard that wasn't conceived and born here. All rams, and I mean all rams come from respectable places and never pass through a sales barn. And, as a precaution, they have feet cleaned up and stand in footbath for 20 minutes before getting off the trailer. The paranoia has even spread to watching the shoes. Any shoes we wear to someone else's sheep farm never go into our barns, and no visitor gets into our barns with contaminated shoes. An ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. Trust me, I've been there. | |
