If you put something else on there, and the system runs slower to the point where it doesn't have time to do what it should be, then you would be an unhappy customer because the product isn't performing as advertised. It also reduces the ability for a virus or malicious software to do bad things.
In addition, I think it is running what they call embedded windows, which has different licensing costs compared to regular XP. | |
