Subject: Re: Massey enthusiasts (with pix)

The 31+inch in diameter rotor was not made after about 89 maybe (can't remember the year) It was the time when Massey Combine Corp in Canada, which labelled their combines "Massey" not "Massey Ferguson, " had their loans called in and they went out of business. A dealer told me Deere was after the combine, but Linamar, a Canadian defense contractor, bought the design and they set up an assembly plant in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. They only built the 28 inch wide rotor which was also shorter (the length of the present rotor) and shelved the bigger combine. There may have been some bigger ones on dealer lots for some time later.
I remember going up there. The processors were coming in on rail cars and they added the rest of the combine. All the combines were the 8570 with Massey Ferguson name and a smaller number were under another name and were sent to France for corn harvest. Agco bought the rights to the machine in 90's and sent production to Hesston, but did not resurrect the design till the new series above.
