Subject: changing a shifting sensor in a IH 5488?

mid minnesota
It the 2 sensors under the floor that are used to shift between gears on the go. One is leaking oil and when the oil gets hot it shorts out( the oil gets in the wiring) It looks like it just screws into the top of the cover and plug it in. But a sort of partime mechanic told me its a real hard job need to drain the oil .Why its on the top of the case? and it has to be put in a certain way. Anyone changed one of these . He not looking to have me pay him for putting it in but when I picked up the part it does not look like a big deal. He does like to brag how smart he is!!!!
