Yep thats an old idea .Something very similar ,was developedby the US back in WWII for amphibious ops in the pacific. I dont believe it ever got past the protoypte phase though.The program , correct me if I'm wrong, ultimately ended up producing the amtrack ( sp??) series of amphibious vehicles.
