| There is no reason to back away from an early 800 unit. The problem they had was the upright that the openers bolt to tended to split. Any you find should have been fixed. All they did was weld a little piece of folded metal to both sides so it couldn't split. I have first year 800 row units that still perform as well as later units. Both types ofunits are used on our 24 row 15 inch.
If you decided to replace them later you would have to replace the entire #7, but your performance won't necessarily improve by doing so.
The main changes are get firming points and seed boots from Shoup, make sure it has the thicker opening disk and a flip washer, and change 5/8 hex shaft to 7/8.
You might want to change 27-30 top picture to 51-54 bottom picture because some people have experienced the planter adjusting its depth on its on.
If you decide to go vacuum you will have to change part 25 on either model to one from a 1200. | |
