north central Oklahoma | Not trying to be a smart aleck here, but if it said to use a half cup, then use a half cup. I don't follow your logic in wanting to know how much weight is in the half cup. The planter is not going to go bonkers if you put a little more than a half cup, and neither will it lock up using less than a half cup. The by gosh and by golly method works pretty will. If a farmer can tell the difference between a 1/2" wrench and a 3/4" wrench, then you sure oughtta be able to get close to 1/2 cup of talc.
p.s. I konw people that have never used talc in a vac planter on corn, beans yes, but they say they can't see the difference in use an non use of talc in our population stands anyway.
Edited to add: now I see what you are getting at, and I still say it don't matter that much. The reccomendations I have seen are 1/2 cup per box full of seed, which even on a 1.6 box is far more than 50#, and most of that ends up caked at the bottom of the box. It's not rocket science.
