| We call "pack" the "cake." You must be talking chickens. We have to cleanout the brooding portion every flock. The finisher portion will last about 6 flocks (1.5 years). We manage the cake by using a tractor & tiller to break it up so it would dry. And yes, we do that when the birds are in there. Ocassionally a really really dumb Turkey will get close too the decal that illustrates unspeakable horrors if you get close to the tines and whap! That's it. We try not to let that happen.
I have heard stories about other barn designs, especially two story houses. I would say compared to them, yes I have it made. I heard of a guy that ran his tractor right out the second story door while pushing litter. Unfortunately he didn't survive.
