Subject: RE: Strip Till - Erosion Potential

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Water follows the path of least resistance down hill - and as you have probably seen it doesn't take much of a slope. We saw this tendency even in relatively flat ground near Bloomington IL after fall anhydrous with mole knives in the early 1990's.

This is one of several reasons we are very enthusiastic about our Pluribus strip till unit. It is designed to operate in the spring. Leave the residue out there over the winter as soil cover. Make strips in the spring anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple rounds ahead of the planter.

In general in the north we suggest stripping into wheat stubble in late summer or fall. Strip into corn stalks in the spring with the Pluribus. Bean stubble can be stripped in either fall or spring. We do urge customers with sloping ground to leave that bean stubble until spring. You WILL get time to do it. There are many different fertilizer methods and options. With fertilizer prices going as they are placing fertilizer when and where the plant needs it can reduce fert cost significantly.
