Ethridge, TN
Just finished re-doing a 24 row where the previous person didn't have a clue, and took the new heavy blades to the old specs. Had to replace over half of the blade bearings, cause the blades themselves where still to good to throw away, but the extra pressure did the bearings in. Replaced 12 seed tubes, cause the extra pressure added extreme wear to the center scrapper, and wore into the tubes. 1- 1.5" of contact, and the business card trick is the best way to evaluate that. Take 2 business cards, slip one in from the top and one in from the bottom, to where the disks will just hold them. The space between them is your contact area.
