John & Daleny are correct. It's to dump the hyd. oil back in the trans without it getting too hot. Use it for the hyd. motor return if you use a hyd. motor. I've had a 5088 and put 6400 hrs on it without any problems, and a 5488 which I still have with about 5800 hrs and no problems. They're good tractors.
