Subject: Help with 854 wheel motor fittings

Hazelton, Kansas

I had a bad rust/corrosion problem develop on my 854 Rogator. The cavity where the fittings attach to the rear wheel motor filled with crud, and rust destroyed the hose ends, etc. The main problem is removing the 8 mm hex socket-head screws that hold the face seals to the motor.

I've tried PB Blaster, CRC, WD, Kroil, and the 50-50 ATF-acetone mix discussed here a week or so ago. So far, NONE of the 8 screws has given at all.

I've also given the center of the socket heads repeated whacks with a punch...as much as I feel comfortable doing.

The new hoses will probably arrive Monday, so I'm still trying to be patient and give the magic oils a chance to work. I've limited torque to, maybe 120 foot-lbs up to this point, as the inside of the hex sockets are rusted, and threaten to strip.

The next step is to bolt-cut the lines, remove the wheel and motor, and try to apply some fairly precise heat (which I really don't want to do, because the motor's still fine at this point).

What am I missing? Any and all ideas & suggestions considered.
