Subject: RE: '07 GMC radio power

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I installed a two-way in my 07 Silverado and had (have) the same problem.

I found a power plug in the computer cabinent below my arm rest (split seat not buckets). At first I thought this would be great - handy and convienent since I mounted the radio along the back wall of the cab and reach between the seats to get the Mike.

However I found that it is wired HOT. I actually still did it that way temporarily. We don't use the radios much anymore with the advent of cell phones so I just run with the radio off most of the time.

I figure that during the busy times, forgetting it ON won't hurt much since not much power is being used unless I transmit.

Now you've reminded me that I was going to change that over Winter but haven't done so.

Are both lighter plugs on the dash wired HOT? On my car, one is hot and the other is switched.

Please reply if you find a good spot.

A relay is probably the answer with the trigger coming off of a keyed source but the actual power to run the radio would be coming off of a different more powerful source.
