Columbia Falls, Maine ( Downeast Maine)
some of the newer I-joist system's are enginerred (sp) for 19.2 " centers. kinda funny old houses around here few framed 2,3,4 feet between joists then 2 layers of boards for the floor. Jump ahead to now and they got to be 16", 19.2", 24" on center . If you went any diffrent lord help you, you'd be a really aweful builder. Seems to me that some of the old homes still work very well, yes the floors may sag some, but they still work. Also look at the barn roofs purlins spaced wide with boards spanning 5,6,8 feet at times and still standing. Imagine if you built one like it today. You'd be the laughung stock of the town.

Sorry end of rant
Rick
