They preach R3 for timing here and most studies I've seen are pretty consistant on the return being more predictable at R3 especially if you are spraying a "strobi" such as Headline.
Also would put an insecticide in if you are spraying a fungicide anyway. The mix of the two has also been more consistant than just the fungicide.
