Subject: RE: Starter fertilizer on soybeans?

Elkhart, Illinois
Soybeans present a different scenario than corn. 10-34-0 as well as products formulated for in furrow placement in corn may cause a bean to swell when placed in furrow with soybeans. This is not a big deal as long as soil moisture is adequate. Factors to consider before taking this risk would include:
1: soil moisture
2: seeding depth ( I would want deeper planted beans to ensure better moisture)
3: soil temp and foreasted air temperature (make sure yo can get them up quickly) without drying out the seed bed.

I have done this, although not with 10-34-0, with success. I never checked yield. My reasons were mostly trying to get faster early growth and get those 30" beans to canopy a little quicker.
Good Luck
