Subject: 9650w fan coupler question

southern Illinois
I was going over the combine and the rubber coupler that connects the engine to the fan jack shaft was torn into in one spot. I removed it and there was a snap ring hanging on the shaft. Upon removel of the jack shaft there is a rubber grommet inside the spider, thats suppose to be held in by the snapring hanging on the shaft, that looks simular to the ones on the chaffer frame arm that go back and forth about 2000hours.
My question does anyone have a break down of this area, with the snapring pointed away from the engine the nut on the end of the shaft pushes against the snapring, flipping it over takes the pressure off the snapring all together and i cant see what it would hurt, just wondering if it was put in backwards at some time and if the spider cant be turned over for some reason. My service manual says this section is covered in another service manual that i don t have so thanks for any help.
