Subject: RE: Building your own lift-arms

If you can't find something at a salvage yard (my first pick), get something like 400 plate cut in the right shape and weld some good ends on.  They make excavator and dozer root-rake tines out of that stuff so it oughta be good for liftarms.  I'd ask my local machine shop what they recommend though- beats the heck out of downtime and maybe twisting up the gear you're carrying by using cheap stuff.  As a matter of fact, for my use, I'd get them to do the work.  They've got better gear and are better welders than I am.  Most things I'd do myself, but some stuff I get the pros to do.  Welding on lift arms is one of them.
