local NRCS office rents a 3-point "root plow" for $5 per day. 

Looks like a single shank off of a v-ripper.  Doesn't pull too hard being only a single shank.  Best time to use is in the fall after crops are out so the clumps it brings up have a chance to mellow through the freeze-thaw cycles during winter.
