southern MN | That's easy - the one who owns the land is going to be right.
They may or may not be proper, but they will always be the one with the 'right' answer on this!
Years ago around here ya paid after the crop was out.
Then it went to split payment, 1/2 before you started field work, 1/2 after you got the crop out. That seemed kinda fair to both sides; but in bad years more than once land owners didn't get the 2nd payment, only the 1/2 half.....
So, now it is not unusual to have all the payment up front.
Whatever you work out between the 2 of you is right, but the person who owns the land gwts to decide in the end what right is.
