Subject: Sulfur....

Ashburn, GA, (very close to Heaven!)
28-0-0-5S Liquid Nitrogen is the most economical and common and is being used for topdressing now. Preplant fertilizer, where magnesium was a little low, had some 0-0-22K-11Mg-11S KMag in the mix. Some topdressing is getting 12-0-0-26S liquid added to 19% Liquid Nitrogen or even 32%. We also have a few cases where we are mixing 21-0-0-24S Ammonium Sulfate Granular with 46% Urea or 34% Ammonium Nitrate. TOTAL season, we are using as little as !00 lb of N (behind peanuts) and as much as 140 lb behind sorghum or maybe corn, with 120 lb being pretty common. Preplant got N in a range of 20-40 with S in the range of 10-15; top dressing rates are 70-90 N with another 10-15 S. In deeper south west Georgia where the top soil is even a little more sandy, many are going with 150 lb total N and 40 lb total S. Sometimes we are splitting the topdressing to two applications. We are actually flying on some liquid at 10 gallons per acre, or putting out dry that way. Some growers are injecting through pivots. Some are running Big A's, some trucks, some 4720's, and some other spray rigs. Anyhow, for the most part, we are getting it out there.
