In my opinion if a guy is putting very many hours a year on a tractor it's almost cheaper to run newer than old unless you can do your own repairs. We're farming a little over 2,000 acres with three main field tractors, a MX-240 (2,800 hours), a 5488 (7,300 hours) and a 1086 (10,000 hours) but the MX-240 and 5488 can be interchanged on most jobs if one would go down and the 1086 can be replaced by one of three 1066s if need be. I'd like to replace the 1086 with another 200hp tractor so all three of our field tractors would be the same size but for the time being we have almost zero in season down time with any of these tractors. We are putting around 650 hours a year on our MX-240 and since it is nearing the end of it's warranty it might get replaced in the next couple of years.
