I just uploaded a mapdot and every thing worked fine for me.  The images are limited to a very small size (I think around 6 kb).  What file format was your image?  Also they need to me small in resolution  (100x150 seems to ring a bell, Ed can probably tell us for sure).  The image needs to be in a compressed format like a jpg.
