Takes about 1/5 the room to store as rounds. 2-3x as fast to get up. Can be shipped nation wide . Feeding losses are about 1/3-1/2 of rounds unless ground.
Down falls ; Cost of baler. Needs either to be stored inside or covered in WET areas of the country. I can store big sqs outside for years in the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming, but better have them gone in 1-2 yrs in Montana. Just got done shipping some 6 yr old hay in big sqs to Texas last week, still looked good, but twines were weak.
I would hate to put up very much hay with round balers. We'll bale more in a good night with the 2 Hesstons than most people put up in a year with a round baler.
