The engine would gain torque and hp from a compression ratio increase to take advantage of E85's 100 octane, but will run just fine at the old gasoline CR. E85 will be no harder on the valves than lead free gasoline. The engine will have less heating problems on E85,as the voporization of alcohol helps cool the engine. we used to have a sprint car racing class up here that allowed either Alcohol or gasoline fuel. The few diehards that insisted on running gasoline needed near twice as much radiator to keep their engines cool.
The only way it will burn the pistons out is if you do not get the carb/injectors jetted right and run it too lean.
