Subject: Bred heifer - gut bulge

NWIL
When feeding today I noticed one of my bred heifers has this bulge on her lower left side. She seems to be in no pain or discomfort, walks normally, in there fighting to get at the hay with all the rest of the cows, etc. Didn't get my hands on it, but it doesn't appear to be any harder or softer then the surrounding area. Everything seems completely normal except this dang bulge that has me worried.

I've only seen something along these lines twice, once in a feedyard heifer where this sort of bulge showed up along the belly. Had her butchered and discovered it was caused by an injury and would have been fine, not a gut rupture as we'd feared. Another time we had a bred heifer show up with a bulge on her left side, only more in the flank area and not quite as large. Vet attributed that one to a bruise that swelled up, we just let it go and about 2-3 weeks later it disappeared.

Anyone have any idea whats going on here?
