Subject: Mud in front of feed bunk

Cullom, Illinois
I'm backgrounding steers this winter and have a problem. I have a dirt feedlot that set empty for two years. With a little rain last week, the area in front of the feedbunk is mush. To late to pour concrete. So what can I do to firm it up. It's froze now but that won't last till spring. Did a google search for rubber mats but they cost a lot. Someone suggested three inch gravel but I'm not sure that would work and it may be hard on their feet. I do remember an ad in one of the farm magazines for mats made out of old rubber belting or tires, but can't find the ad. Any suggestions?
