Subject: RE: RTK ompatability quetion

It all depends on the type of radio and its signal format. There are 4 main format's RTCM, CRM, CMR+ and 3rd Party Propriaty. With radio's they tend to be Freewave, UHF and RFM. Unless the controller on the machine has the same type of radio as the base and can process the same signal format the base is sending out things just don't work. Some brands of autosteer controllers can have their configurations changed to accept different signal formats and you could then buy and install the same radio as the base has. The only brand of controller I have personally seen this done on is AGCO/BEELINE systems, but it could be worthwhile asking the question of other companies. As a tip if they say it can be done ask for a contact number of farmers who are actually using the reconfigured systems as I have seen a large number of guys buying on such a promise and it all going pear shaped because the salesman was informed "yes it can be done in theory" by the manufacturer but no service staff on the ground who know "how" to do it.
