Subject: Power surges

Pittsburg, Kansas

I don't know if it affects the Insights like the PF3000's but we have had enough power problems over the years that if we shut off the tractor we also shut off the PF3000 and Insights before we start the tractor up again. Before we started doing this there were a number of occasions where the PF3000's would lock up or sometimes work what seemed like fine until sometime later in the day when they would not be recording data right or would not shut down correctly or sometimes not at all (had to remove power cable). Once we made the rule to never start the tractor/combine without first powering down the Ag Leader all those problems went away. Same thing for Outbacks. Starting the engine with them powered up will sometimes create strange problems, until they are rebooted. It is a PITA sometimes and either causes the engines to idle more than I like (so we dont have to power down the electronics) or takes an extra half minute but that rule for us has eliminated a lot of stray, unexplainable problems.
