12 inches overlap is what I use when cutting wheat. Even then, you have a few skips. Try 12" to start with, then increase it if you find the uncut strips too objectionable.

Edit: I hung my ez-steer from the cab ceiling from the plastic by the right side door. I removed the plastic, drilled 4 holes to match the bracket on the ez-steer, and epoxied machine screws in the holes. After reassembling, I fasten the bracket to the"studs" protruding from the plastic . I sort of wonder about the ability of the plastic piece to support the weight, but after 2 years, everything still looks ok.
