Jim, are we talking protein/energy supplement or mineral supplement?

The lick tubs are convenient but expensive. If you have time and the distance isn't too far IMO it's much cheaper to feed cake or supplemental feed in bunks. If the pasture is far enough away that it isn't feasable to do chores daily, then the convenience of tubs is something to be considered. As far as mineral goes I prefer to feed loose mineral in some kind of feeder. I use steel lick barrels and try keep the mineral fresh and replenish often. A covered mineral feeder of some type would be beneficial in wetter environments.
