Subject: remarks, observations and AC Greenfix update.

Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada
plots are varying
all are 2 acres or more
all had oats last year
all are in a transition organic stage
no amendments added last year
all were sod in 05
all have oats this year
only amendments tested this year is crab meal, 8-3.8-1 N-P-K with
14% Ca.......of course it's organic. on 2 plots, crop looks better this
year than last....combine day will tell the truth.
first plot came off yesterday....nothing added....except manure before
seeding , 44 lbs / bu, just around 80 bpa.
other plots had green manure plowdown, perennial grasses at the 18"
stage.

early thoughts
an underseed green manure crop for next spring plowdown is a must. will let more intensive management practices be followed. underseeded AC Greenfix (august 6th underseeded) is now 12" tall with numerous N nodes on the roots. we had a heavy frost on Sept 6 and it is unaffected. Greenfix requires some cover to germinate and get started....but not much. it will germinate and start laying on top of the ground...but not well.

i'm impressed so far with Greenfix. we'll see what it does next summer....ot'll be feeding oats.
