Subject: RE: Update on late July planted Oklahoma corn

north central Oklahoma
My seed dealer advised me on this hybrid for July planting as opposed to the hybrid I plant in March/April for it's height. Thsi variety tends to get taller allowing higher ear set for later planted corn. I planted a GARST 96 day on another quarter, and it likely resembles much of the short corn to which you refer.. It may still make a crop, but I'll be licking the ears off the ground. The fall army worms are also working the GARST over much worse than the GH hybrid, go figger. The worms are active on the stunted/later plants in the GH field, but the taller ones just show feeding, but no weakening of plant at all like the GARST. Both varieties are GT/BT too. Oh well. GH is prolly 8 to 8-1/2' tall while GARST is barely head high including tassle. The last week has really made a difference in height of this stuff. You would not recognize it as being same crop from Monday to Friday.
