We have been dealing with wild parsnip for about 25 to 30 years now, and it seems to be getting worse.
We are in Northeast Iowa. I remmember as a kid, fencing through a small patch. A few days latter I was covered with blisters. Since then we are very careful to avoid contact with skin. Later we discovered there is an oil on the plant similar to poison ivy but this oil is sunlight activated and creates burns which will blister and leave quite a scar. As kids we found the best cure was the public swimming pool -still is- Something with the chlorine.
As for your pasture control, good luck, I think I'll try the 2,4,DB also. When first encountered this plant, it seemed to grow and bloom one time during the year. Now it grows and blossoms from spring until frost. It is a biennial so nailing it the first year works pretty good. Our problems are feild borders and waterways. | |
